President Donald Trump was busy as ever this week, hosting several colorful events at the White House while monitoring the Iran war and overseeing beautification projects in the nation’s capital.
Here are just a few of the most notable moments that caught the public’s attention:
Trump warns children about nuclear Iran
While signing a proclamation to restore the Presidential Fitness Test in U.S. schools on Tuesday, Trump discussed Iran in front of children.
At one point during the Oval Office event, he told the children that Iran was “two weeks away” from killing them before the United States and Israel intervened. It remains unclear if Iran was close to developing a nuclear weapon in such a short time frame.
“You might be too young for this, I don’t know,” Trump said to the children. “They probably know. They probably know better than most people. But you can’t let a bunch of lunatics have a nuclear weapon, or the world would be in trouble.”
His remarks during the physical fitness signing ceremony sparked controversy online.
Children partake in field day on White House lawn
Following the presidential order, the White House hosted a field day with professional athletes and young children partaking in athletic activities outside.
LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau managed to do 30 pullups in front of a crowd that included the president. Trump said the physical feat was “amazing.” DeChambeau also did 50 pushups, alongside 90-year-old retired golfer Gary Player.
Other top athletes, such as ice hockey player TJ Oshie, were present for the event. Mascots for the Washington Nationals baseball team were also seen at the White House that day, waving at the president and giving high-fives to reporters.
Interacting with the children, Trump taught them how to pull off his signature “YMCA” dance while the song played in the background.
Trump shows off mock-ups of UFC cage fight
Trump then hosted another sports-related event on Wednesday, this time for the UFC cage match slated to be held outside the White House next month.
Flanked by UFC fighters, the president displayed several renderings of what the octagonal arena will look like on the night of the event. In small print, the renderings said the concept is “not final” and “subject to changes.”
“Not bad, right?” he asked rhetorically. “Our country is invited to this. It’s free.”
The UFC Freedom 250 event will take place on June 14, marking Trump’s 80th birthday. It comes just weeks before the nation’s 250th birthday.
Trump’s motorcade drives across Reflecting Pool
On Thursday, Trump took a break from official business to visit the National Mall to see how the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was progressing.
Several motorcades were seen driving over the covered-up Reflecting Pool, according to videos posted by White House officials Margo Martin and Steven Cheung.
The pool is undergoing a rapid $2 million renovation that will leave the landmark with an “American flag blue” coating. Trump has said the project is less expensive than replacing the granite surface, which has been “leaking like a sieve” for some time. The renovation is one example of the Trump administration’s restoration efforts in Washington, D.C., this year.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, whom Trump tasked with heading the pool renovation, was present while Trump complimented the hardworking men behind the project. Other administration officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, were also in attendance.
Rubio stands in for Leavitt during maternity leave
Trump is not the only one with a busy schedule. Secretary of State Marco Rubio led a White House press briefing on Tuesday, filling in for Karoline Leavitt while she’s on maternity leave.
The briefing was different in the sense that Rubio effectively answered foreign policy questions while maintaining a lighthearted, playful composure with the press corps.
RUBIO AFFIRMS ‘ENDURING PARTNERSHIP’ WITH HOLY SEE AS HE MEETS WITH POPE LEO XIV
At one point, Rubio noted the “chaos” of the briefing. As he pointed to reporters for certain questions, he joked that he may need a laser pointer to distinguish between who he was calling on.
Many observers saw the press conference as a tryout for president amid speculation he will run in 2028, perhaps on the same ticket as Vice President JD Vance. Speculation about Rubio’s possible White House bid is mounting as Trump entrusts more international duties to the nation’s top diplomat. Rubio visited Rome to meet with Pope Leo XIV on Thursday as tensions between the Vatican and Washington remain high amid the Iran war.
