Multiple people wounded in shooting at South Carolina’s largest mall, authorities detain suspects

Multiple people were wounded after a shooting at Haywood Mall in Greenville, South Carolina, the largest mall in the state, police confirmed Saturday.

Multiple people were wounded after shots rang out Saturday afternoon at the largest mall in South Carolina.

The Greenville Police Department told Fox News Digital two people were taken to the hospital after the incident unfolded around 1 p.m. local time at Haywood Mall in Greenville.

Multiple people are in custody, according to the department. 


“The scene is active but contained,” a spokesperson said.

Officials said there is no danger to the public, but “it could be some time” before first responders can clear the area. 

The Greenville City Fire Department and other law enforcement officers are assisting with evacuations.

The city’s public transit system, Greenlink, is providing a bus with air conditioning for evacuees to stay cool, and the mall will be closed for an undetermined amount of time, according to police.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), South Carolina Highway Patrol and Greenville County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to additional inquiries from Fox News Digital.
