President Donald Trump decried the Nobel committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, saying the decision disgraced Norway as a whole.

Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump went on a lengthy tangent over the decision to give his coveted prize to someone else. He began by denigrating Pillay’s lack of name recognition, calling her a “mystery person.”

“Today they gave out the Nobel Peace Prize to a person … I never heard of the person. Nobody did. It’s a mystery person,” he said.

Trump went on to pitch his own eligibility for the prize, going through the eight wars he claims to have stopped.

“Think of it. Any one of these eight wars, you get the Nobel Prize. I did eight. No president’s ever done any,” he complained.

The president also tied it into the two ongoing conflicts dominating the news cycle, saying he was “about to settle or win two more: Iran and Russia.”

He raised his candidacy for the award by claiming he had “saved more lives than anyone in history” since he prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, which the country would use to blow up “the entire Middle East, and ultimately far beyond the Middle East.”

He also noted that the 2025 winner, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, offered to share her award with Trump.

That moment was not lost on Pillay, who joked on Friday she “may share this prize with Trump” if her supporters “clap a little bit more,” according to reports.

Trump maintained he had the stronger Nobel resume than Pillay, but, despite his “unbelievable accomplishments, the Nobel Prize was given today to a liberal person of the United Nations,” who hadn’t stopped any wars, he said.

Instead, Trump says he “should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t. And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway, and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision. The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy, and really enemies of civilization.”

“And we will not forget, Norway, that you didn’t give this prize [to the candidate] with the greatest record in history. Not eight wars. We should have had eight Nobel Prizes for each war, but that you didn’t give the Nobel Prize for Peace to the United States of America. It’s just another sign of how Norway and all these others are ripping off our country,” the president concluded.

Trump’s quest for the Nobel Peace Prize has helped define his foreign policy in his second term. His refrain of “solving” eight wars has become one of his most repeated statements, and got him nominated by many different leaders, including the prime minister of Pakistan.

The Nobel committee said Pillay was awarded the prize for her role in having “significantly enlarged the scope and impact of international law.” She made headlines last year for leading the U.N. committee that ruled Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, a highly controversial decision.
