President Donald Trump reacted to the mass shooting that occurred Sunday at a church in Michigan, calling it a “targeted attack.”

“I have been briefed on the horrendous shooting that took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Grand Blanc, Michigan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn. This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America. The Trump Administration will keep the Public posted, as we always do. In the meantime, PRAY for the victims, and their families. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!” Trump added.

ONE DEAD, MORE FATALITIES EXPECTED FROM FIRE IN MICHIGAN MORMON CHURCH SHOOTING

As of Sunday afternoon, one victim had died as a result of being shot, and ten others were wounded. The gunman is also suspected of starting a fire at the church, which has since been contained. Authorities said they expect there to be more victims found as a result of the fire.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often referred to as the Mormon church, have largely been considered outsiders to Christianity. While centered on Jesus Christ, the LDS faith includes more scripture than most Christian denominations, as the Book of Mormon, in particular, gives them their nickname.

Vice President JD Vance also responded to the shooting.

“Just an awful situation in Michigan. FBI is on the scene and the entire administration is monitoring things,” Vance wrote on X. “Say a prayer for the victims and first responders.”

LEADER OF THE LDS CHURCH DIES AT 101

The members of the LDS Church are a throng of 17 million members, with the majority residing outside of the United States. Over 46,000 Michiganders are counted in the religion. Grand Blanc’s city and township has a combined total of 47,500 people, and is located north of Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Officials haven’t released the name of the suspect, who is now deceased, but have described him as a 40-year-old male. He drove into the church after worship services had begun.
