The top federal prosecutor in South Florida resigned Friday, marking another leadership departure from the Justice Department investigation into whether former intelligence and law enforcement officials conspired against President Donald Trump.
U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quinones, whose office oversaw the investigation into the origins and handling of Trump-Russia collusion allegations, submitted his resignation, Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on X.

“United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason Reding Quiñones submitted his resignation from the Department of Justice,” Blanche wrote.
Blanche praised the outgoing prosecutor’s work combating violent crime, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and transnational crime, highlighting the indictment of former Cuban leader Raul Castro.
“Jason has served the Department multiple times over his distinguished career, and we thank him for his service to this country,” Blanche said.
His departure follows the September resignation of Joseph diGenova, the former Reagan-era U.S. attorney brought in to lead the investigation alongside prosecutors in Reding Quiñones’s office.
The investigation, launched in August 2025, has examined an alleged “grand conspiracy” involving former Obama administration officials and efforts to promote allegations of collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia. It has resulted in subpoenas for former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former FBI Director James Comey.
The Washington Examiner spoke to people familiar with the investigation who accused diGenova of moving too slowly toward indictments and pursuing investigative tangents. DiGenova, who resigned Sept. 10, thanked the president for allowing him to contribute his services but publicly voiced caution about ensuring the investigation was handled correctly and at a proper pace.
“Conducting investigations is arduous work, and there are always differences of opinions,” he told the Washington Examiner in September.
Blanche’s announcement praised Reding Quinones’s broader prosecutorial record without explaining his departure or outlining what would happen next in the conspiracy investigation.
The exit also came one day after Blanche announced the resignation of Harmeet Dhillon, who led the department’s Civil Rights Division.
