A handful of social media users were upset over Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) choice of jacket on Tuesday, specifically at how costly it likely was.
The California governor was speaking at an event updating the public on removing structural debris following the wildfires in southern California. After the event, however, several users pointed out the gray jacket Newsom was wearing, with some pointing out that the jacket may have cost up to $6,000.
“NOTE TO SELF: Never ever wear a $6000 jacket when attempting to show compassion to middle class fire victims who have lost everything & have inadequate insurance,” one user on X wrote. “What’s @CAgovernor thinking?”

It is not the first time a jacket worn by the California governor has been mocked online, as several users knocked the governor for wearing a fleece jacket during a record heatwave in 2022. Newsom was wearing the jacket during a video in which he urged California residents to not use air conditioning after 4 p.m.

The Washington Examiner has contacted Newsom’s office for comment.
Last week, Newsom met with President Donald Trump at the White House, which was about the state’s continued recovery efforts from the southern wildfires. The governor commended Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin for doing “an amazing job” with helping Los Angeles in its first phase of debris removal, which he said was being accomplished “at record pace.”
