More Than 2,500 Illegal Migrants Cross US Border Into El Paso In 24 Hours

A surge in illegal border crossings over the weekend saw an average of 2,460 encounters per day with US Border Control, mostly in downtown El Paso, Texas.

Footage from the area posted to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon by Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin showed a “huge line of hundreds of migrants who have crossed illegally into the US [who] are waiting to be taken into Border Patrol custody.”

“Most expect to be released into the US. Many will be. CBP & local shelters overcapacity,” Melugin added.

Busloads of migrants are allegedly being dropped off by Mexican Police at various non-governmental organizations in the city of Ciudad Juarez, then illegally cross the border into El Paso.

Officials believe that the situation will only worsen when Title 42, a pandemic-era policy that allowed authorities to quickly and efficiently expel migrants on public health grounds, comes to an end in a little over a week.

Earlier in the day, Melugin posted footage from the Mexican city of Matamoros, across the border from Brownsville, Texas, where thousands of migrants are waiting until the day that Title 42 is dropped before making the trek across the border.

Despite the Biden administration’s assurance that the end of Title 42 will not change anything, Republicans are concerned that removing this safeguard will signal even more strongly that the borders are open, according to the Daily Mail.
