Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) said she wants a federal investigation into Illinois schools over claims that transgender girls are continuing to be allowed to participate in girls sports.

Miller wrote a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, accusing the Illinois High School Association of “undermining fairness in girls’ sports.” The Republican congresswoman cited “blatant violations of federal law and the rejection of biological reality as grounds for urgent federal investigation” regarding a decision the IHSA made to allow “biological males to compete in girls’ athletic programs.”

Miller said the decision prevented female athletes from having the right to engage and participate in fair competition without risk of suffering injury due to the biological differences between boys and girls. Miller said the decision to allow transgender girls to compete in girls sports “jeopardizes the safety of young women” in Illinois. She also put the blame on her state’s Democrats, including Gov. JB Pritzker.

“Governor JB Pritzker and radical Illinois Democrats have shamelessly embraced an unhinged gender ideology that is not only anti-science but dangerously out of step with the values of everyday Americans,” Miller wrote. “Their attempts to impose this ideology on our children are both abusive and irresponsible, and they must be held accountable to federal law.”

Miller highlighted efforts by President Donald Trump’s “courage and moral clarity” involving transgender girls competing in girls sports and said she stands next to him and “millions of parents across this country, in the fight to uphold biological reality, restore fairness,” and that they would protect the country’s daughters. She also mentioned the legislation she introduced to safeguard girls sports, the Keep Our Girls Safe Act.

“This legislation would codify President Trump’s Executive Order 14201 and strip federal funding from any school that defies the commonsense protections for women and girls established under President Trump’s leadership.”
