Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered a lighter look at life inside the Trump administration, saying his dream weekend involves watching college football uninterrupted.
“I’d love to sit down and watch every college football game, starting at noon Eastern until when the West Coast games end at 2:00 a.m our time Eastern,” Rubio said on Fox News’s My View with Lara Trump on Saturday.
“I’d love to be able to do that at least one weekend. I doubt I’ll be able to do that anytime soon,” he said.
Rubio sat down with Fox News Anchor and President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump for a wide-ranging interview that focused primarily on the Trump administration’s foreign policy agenda, including United States relations with Cuba, China, Iran, Russia, and Venezuela, before shifting to more personal questions about family life, work-life balance, and his favorite way to spend free time.
Rubio also addressed a widely circulated White House photograph that evolved into a series of internet memes, admitting his first reaction was less than enthusiastic.
“When it first came out, I hated that picture,” he said. “If you don’t have a pillow behind your back, you kind of sink. I looked at the picture and thought it was terrible.” Rubio noted that he eventually embraced the online jokes after the image took life of its own.

“It turned into this other thing, and it was fine, and it’s funny,” Rubio said, adding that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino even created a display featuring the growing collection of memes.

Rubio also reflected on how his views have evolved over decades in public service, arguing experience naturally shapes perspective while core principles remain unchanged.
“I’m a different person at 55 than I was at 25,” Rubio said. “You go through life, you learn new things, you see things you hadn’t seen before. I think at your core, you always remain the same person.”
