EXCLUSIVE — House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) will honor National Police Week with a slew of legislative actions and events to pay tribute to law enforcement.

House Republicans have three bills lined up for votes, along with an event called “Pizza for Police” on Wednesday. Emmer also placed blue lights in his office windows to shine onto the Capitol plaza in honor of the nation’s law enforcement officers.

“The men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities,” Emmer told the Washington Examiner. “Their dedication, heroism, and hard work are deserving of our appreciation during National Police Week, and every week.”

The three bills that will be voted on are the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, the LEOSA Reform Act, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025.

The Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act would require the Justice Department to report to Congress on violent attacks on law enforcement. The LEOSA Reform Act would allow qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms and ammunition in areas otherwise banned. Lastly, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act would allow current and retired officers in good standing to purchase their retired weapons.

The effort comes amid President Donald Trump’s push to strengthen law enforcement. Last month, he signed an executive order aiming to empower state and local law enforcement, curb diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and correct efforts by states and cities to “demonize” police and put “legal and political handcuffs” on them.

“The result will be a law-abiding society in which tenacious law enforcement officers protect the innocent, violations of law are not tolerated, and American communities are safely enjoyed by all their citizens again,” the executive order reads.
