While the MAGA movement may not have a significant presence among New York City‘s electorate, it does want to let Democratic mayoral primary voters know: Do not rank Zohran Mamdani.

Most within MAGA have characterized the candidacy of Mamdani, a liberal state assemblyman with ideas such as free child care and buses, along with government-run grocery stores, as disastrous.

Some have gone so far as to endorse former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has drawn ire from the Left and Right for his past scandals, including his COVID-19 nursing home death controversy and the sexual harassment allegations that led to his resignation as governor in 2021.

“God forgive me and bless all of the grannies who died in the nursing homes,” provocateur and right-wing media personality Laura Loomer posted on X. Forgive me for saying this. But, I hope @andrewcuomo wins the NYC Mayoral Democrat primary tomorrow so NYC isn’t destroyed by a Muslim Communist on the ballot named @ZohranKMamdani who hasn’t even been a US citizen for 10 years.”

“I never thought I’d ever hope Cuomo would win. But like I said, God forgive me,” she added. Loomer has also said Mamdani, who is Muslim, is a “jihadist” and holds “ties to Iran.”

Mamdani has generally trailed front-runner Cuomo in the polls. However, the surveys have grown increasingly tight recently as Mamdani’s liberal movement found a foothold and earned endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

He has also found controversy for his anti-Israel stance. Mamdani was criticized by Republicans and Democrats alike for refusing to condemn the “globalize the intifada” phrase used by pro-Palestinian protesters and associated with violence against Jewish people.

Bill Ackman, a Trump donor and hedge fund manager from New York, has been more apt to commend Cuomo while condemning Mamdani.

“Do we want NYC to become Chicago or worse?” he wrote in a post on X. “Do we want the highest murder rate in the country? Do we want to bankrupt our city? Do [we] want even worse schools? Do we want to seed even more division among our residents? Vote for experienced leadership that will bring our city together and grow our economy, rather than tear it apart. Vote [Cuomo] and do not rank Mamdani.”

Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk weighed in on Mamdani multiple times on Tuesday. In one post, he called him a “conman” and nicknamed him “Muhammad Mao.” In another post, he attacked him for his stance on crime.

“It’s not complicated,” Kirk said in a post on X. “Mamdani clearly sees violent subway zombies and their enablers as a more important client group than everyday New Yorkers just trying to do their job. Like all far left radicals, Mamdani puts criminals over law-abiding citizens who make our society work.”

Centrist Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) has also gotten his shots in at someone he once considered a friend and served with in the New York State Assembly.

“Zohran Madman-i’s latest plan to make New Yorkers feel safer? Remove police from high-crime areas,” he wrote. “Good grief — the DSA’s insanity knows no bounds.”

Even Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) weighed in on the race, suggesting that New Yorkers may flee to Florida if Mamdani wins. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) has also expressed concern that Mamdani’s plan to raise taxes on wealthy New Yorkers could do exactly that.

“Just when you thought Palm Beach real estate couldn’t go any higher,” DeSantis said.

Voting ends in the New York City Democratic primary on Tuesday.
