Liberty University’s Spirit of the Mountain marching band is set to partake in Monday’s inauguration parade, and all the band members are “thrilled” to represent their school on the historic day.
Dr. Larry Seipp, Liberty’s director of athletic bands, applied to have the band perform in the parade in November and received confirmation of their appearance in late December. The band will perform “God Bless America” and “Fan the Flames,” Liberty’s fight song written by professor Dr. John Hugo.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE INAUGURATION IN DC?
“As the Director of this talented and dedicated group of student-musicians and performers, I am incredibly proud of their enthusiastic commitment to performing in the Inaugural Parade,” Seipp wrote in a statement obtained by the Washington Examiner. “Our students are thrilled for this opportunity and are honored to represent Liberty University, our community, and our great Nation with pride!”
Seipp also detailed how students have worked outside of classroom hours to practice their music and routines for this parade, citing how band season concluded in November. The professor also thanked the school for helping the band secure funding, hotel reservations, and transportation.
President-elect Donald Trump is no stranger to Liberty, as he spoke twice on the school’s campus for its convocation, in which students gather in the school’s Vines Center bi-weekly to worship God and listen to a speaker. Trump also delivered the commencement speech for the school’s class of 2017, just a few months after his first inauguration.

Monday’s inauguration parade will also include the garbage truck Trump used in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which bore his campaign logo in a knock against President Joe Biden‘s comment that Trump supporters are “garbage.” First responders from Trump’s Butler County, Pennsylvania, rally in July of last year, where the president-elect narrowly survived an assassination attempt, will also march in the parade to honor former fire chief Corey Comperatore, who was killed in the shooting.
However, the parade is not the only appearance Liberty will make in the inaugural celebrations. The school’s Praise Choir is set to perform at Trump’s MAGA Victory rally Sunday at the Capital One Arena, which will also feature performances by Lee Greenwood, Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, and the Village People.
