Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Saturday that the killing of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar will not slow the resistance war its proxy groups are waging against Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed Thursday that Israeli forces killed Sinwar, formerly the most senior Hamas leader and October 7 terrorist attack mastermind, during a drone strike targeting two other terrorists. Sinwar’s killing appears to have been an accident, as Israeli intelligence said it was unaware Sinwar had been traveling with the other targets.
“The loss of Yahya al Sinwar is painful for the resistance Front. But this front didn’t halt its progress in wake of the martyrdoms of eminent figures like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Fathi Saqaqi, Rantisi, and Ismail Haniyeh,” Khamenei, whose regime is standing up both Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, said in a statement. “It won’t falter with Sinwar’s martydrom either.”
Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris lauded Sinwar’s death.
Biden told reporters while traveling to Germany this week that it is a “good day for Israel,” while Harris claimed the killing provided an opportunity to stop the fighting in the Middle East.
“Hamas is decimated, and its leadership is eliminated. This moment gives us an opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza,” she said while campaigning in Milwaukee. “It must end such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.”
“Sinwar was responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of Oct. 7 and the hostages killed in Gaza. He had American blood on his hands,” she added. “Today, I can only hope that the families of the victims of Hamas feel a sense and measure of relief.”

Khamenei did not signal that Hamas was going anywhere, saying, “Hamas is alive and will stay alive.”
Also on Saturday, a drone sent from Lebanon targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home. No one was home, and no one was injured, but Netanyahu still vowed to defeat Iran’s “terrorist proxies” in the battle for Israel’s peace.
