Celebrities were quick to praise President Joe Biden after he announced he will not be running in November’s presidential election while cheering the endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.

“Vote for the candidate who will both honor & further his legacy: Kamala Harris,” Star Wars actor Mark Hamill said in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

He added the alliterative hashtag #HamillHeartsHarris.

Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns also praised Biden’s endorsement of Harris.

“History recognizes actions that are bigger than self,” Burns said.

“She’s ready for this fight and I’m excited to help her in any way I can,” singer John Legend also said of Harris.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis was thrilled by Biden’s stepping aside for Harris

“I support wholeheartedly @joebiden and his decision to step down and to endorse unreservedly @kamalaharris. SHE IS TRUSTED AND TESTED and she is a fierce advocate for women’s rights and people of color and her message is one of HOPE and UNITY for America at her time of great national divide,” she said on Sunday.

Singer Barbra Streisand said in a post on X that Biden would “go down in history as a man who accomplished significant achievements in his four-year term.”

“There is nothing more important for our country than defeating Donald Trump at the ballot box,” actor Robert DeNiro responded.

British singer and songwriter Charli XCX, who recently released her album brat, which debuted at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart last month, also tweeted, “Kamala IS brat.”

The tweet went viral, and by Monday afternoon, Harris’s campaign had created social media account banners and posts that played off the singer’s brat album cover.

The praise for Biden is a departure from just weeks ago when top Hollywood donors and celebrities were calling for his ouster.

Actor George Clooney had written a New York Times op-ed calling on the president to step aside, and an avalanche of entertainment stars joined his full-court press to pressure the president to alter course in the election.
