Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at her home on Saturday, police announced.
In a statement, the Alexandria Police Department said Aber, 43, was found after responding to a report of an unresponsive woman at 9:18 a.m. on Saturday. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause of death.

She was mourned in a statement from her successor, the current U.S. attorney for the district, Erik Siebert.
“We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber,” he said. “She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world.”
“Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard,” Siebert added.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares extended his condolences to Aber’s friends and family.
