A former aide to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sparked a media firestorm after announcing she is tying the knot to a son of George Soros.
Huma Abedin and Alex Soros announced their engagement on social media Wednesday.
“This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love,” the duo said in a post to Instagram.
Abedin, who worked with Clinton at the White House, Senate, and State Department, attracted scrutiny for her failed marriage to disgraced New York congressman Anthony Weiner. In 2017, the ex-Democratic lawmaker went to prison after being convicted of sending sexual material to minors.
Abedin’s second marriage has also attracted attention. She will marry the son of a billionaire deemed to be one of the most powerful people in the world. George Soros, the founder of the far-left Open Society Foundations, has helped shape the landscape of the American justice system, with reports claiming half of the country’s 50 most populous cities have Soros-funded prosecutors in local offices.
The elder Soros also holds the purse strings of the Democratic Party, giving $170 million to the party during the 2022 midterm elections, while donating another $200 million to leftist groups in 2021. During the Black Lives Matter Movement sparked by George Floyd’s death in 2020, Soros poured $220 million of OSF funds into organizing leftist activists. The following year, OSF gave anti-police groups another $35 million.
Alex Soros has continued his father’s tradition of wielding influence, urging Democrats to get behind President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee on Wednesday.
“Let’s stop running against ourselves and run against the existential threat that is Donald Trump! Biden-Harris 2024!” he posted to X as Biden prepares to field hostile questions about his mental acuity during a highly anticipated press conference Thursday evening.

Nearly a year ago, the elder Soros handed over control of OSF to Alex Soros. With the announcement of her engagement, Abedin stands to hold a part in a powerful legacy and the reins of a colossal empire.
A wedding date has not yet been publicly announced.
