EXCLUSIVE — Ex-intelligence officials who baselessly linked Hunter Biden’s infamous abandoned laptop to Russia are the focus of a new GOP resolution in Congress blasting them for allegedly interfering in the 2020 election.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), a member of the House Oversight and the Foreign Affairs committees, will introduce the resolution Tuesday afternoon, according to an advance copy obtained by the Washington Examiner. The resolution comes roughly one week after FBI agent Erika Jensen, a witness in Hunter Biden’s criminal trial in Delaware over gun charges, testified about the laptop’s authenticity and described bank records on it. Hunter Biden was found guilty Tuesday of lying about his drug use during a handgun purchase in 2018.

“We rely on our intelligence community for life or death matters, and they have let us down,” Burchett said in a statement. “They allowed politics to infiltrate their operations, and they are now the deep state and the ruling class.”

The resolution zeroes in on how 51 former intelligence officials signed a letter in October 2020 casting doubt on the authenticity of the laptop — which was at the center of reporting from the New York Post on Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine and China.

The false narrative that the laptop appeared to be part of a Russian disinformation campaign was seized upon by then-candidate Joe Biden’s campaign. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a former Biden campaign adviser, “triggered” the letter’s organizer, former Deputy Director of the CIA Mike Morell, to write the document, the House Judiciary Committee revealed last year.

The Washington Examiner confirmed in 2022 that the laptop was authentic through a commissioned forensic examination.

In the resolution, Burchett said the statements from the ex-intelligence officials discrediting the laptop’s authenticity show they “abused their previous credentials to make misleading and unfounded claims to the American public.”

The resolution “condemns the former officials for interfering in the 2020 presidential election” between Biden and former President Donald Trump.
