Dozens of unauthorized guests gained access to Mar-a-Lago while Donald Trump was there as president, raising further questions about the Secret Service’s competence.
The documents were obtained by Bloomberg days after the Saturday assassination attempt, via a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents detailed dozens of instances where trespassers gained access to the resort while Trump was in attendance, including several mentally ill people.
In one instance in June 2019, a man was detained by Mar-a-Lago security and other local police officers for trespassing. He said that he was visiting Mar-a-Lago because he “was the ‘Commander in Chief’ and wanted to survey Mar-a-Lago because it was his birthright.” The man claimed that he was entitled to become “ruler of the entire world,” as was his “birthright.”
The man also claimed that the “ruling families of the world” were going to meet at Mar-a-Lago for “an interdimensional peace conference,” and that he would communicate with Trump using “Morse code through the use of lighters.”
He was involuntarily committed to a mental facility after refusing to speak with Secret Service. He also said that although he believed Trump was doing a poor job as president he had no intention of doing him harm.
In March 2019, an immigrant accessed Mar-a-Lago via the driveway. After being apprehended by police, Border Patrol was called, after which he “started yelling, made crazy statements, and threatened suicide.”
Other mentally ill individuals trespassed but didn’t make it past the ring of security. On Dec. 30, 2018, one man apprehended by security claimed Trump owed him “six trillion dollars,” and that the then-president “controlled all animals and used them as weapons and intelligence gathering mediums.”
One woman, who appeared to believe she was an alien, showed up at Mar-a-Lago repeatedly, claiming she had top secret information related to the Space Force and would only speak to Trump directly. Despite her numerous appearances and an initial arrest, she was not logged into the Secret Service’s Protective Threat Management System, which is used by the agency to monitor potentially threatening behavior and incidents.
Several instances were documented where people were mistakenly waved through by the Secret Service, despite having no authorization to be there. In those cases, the individuals were later apprehended by security and arrested. This usually occurred after they were confronted by Mar-a-Lago security personnel and were unable to give a good reason as to why they were there.

Individuals who sneaked past security were ruled to not be dangerous.
The Secret Service and related agencies are currently under six major investigations, following the attempted assassination of Trump on Saturday.
