The end of March marks the peak bloom of cherry blossom trees in Washington, D.C., and the LEGO Discovery Center is celebrating the occasion by adding its own decorations to its miniature replica of the nation’s capital.

The LEGO cherry blossom trees returned to the center’s Washington, D.C., display from last year, with an extra 20 trees made from 12,200 LEGO bricks being added. The whole project took Andrew Litterst, the center’s master model builder, over 45 hours to complete.

In addition to the trees in the Washington, D.C., replica, the LEGO Discovery Center also has a cherry blossom mosaic built out of over 94,000 LEGO pieces. Prior to heading to the center, however, the display will stop at several cherry blossom festivals, where attendees can add their own touch to the 10-foot wide and 7-foot tall model.

The mosaic will be present at the Blossom Kite Festival at the Washington Monument on Saturday, Petalpalooza in Navy Yard on April 5, and the Springfield Town Center Blossom Festival on April 12.

The final display, which took Litterst over 75 hours to design, will be at the LEGO Discovery Center in mid-April.
