Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed that listening devices were found in his personal bathroom after letting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu use it in 2017.

In his upcoming book, Unleashed, Johnson relayed an anecdote implying Netanyahu might have planted a bug in his personal bathroom, the Telegraph reported. According to the former prime minister, Netanyahu excused himself to use Johnson’s bathroom while at the Foreign Office.

“Thither Bibi repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox,” Johnson wrote.

The Telegraph asked Johnson for further details on the incident, to which he replied, “I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book.”

He did not reveal whether Israel suffered any consequences for the alleged action.

Israel is widely suspected of being behind a similar move in the United States when listening devices were discovered in 2019 around the White House and other sensitive locations around Washington.

Israel’s Mossad is the second-largest intelligence agency in the Western world, even surpassing the United Kingdom’s famous MI6. It proved its mettle last month when a complex plot involving exploding pagers and personal radios killed or injured thousands of Hezbollah members. Its intelligence also led to the assassination of nearly all of Hezbollah’s leadership, including chief Hassan Nasrallah.
