Co-founder of Home Depot Bernie Marcus has died at the age of the 95.
Marcus was surrounded by his family at the time of his death on Monday in Boca Raton, Florida. His legacy not only includes the home improvement chain, where he served as the chairman of the board until 2002, but also the Job Creators Network, an organization that offers training to small business owners.
“Bernie Marcus was one of the great American business success stories. He revolutionized the home improvement industry and retail in general. But Bernie was so much more than a businessman. He was a visionary, a philanthropist, and a dedicated family man,” JCN CEO Alfredo Ortiz said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
“While The Home Depot grew to become one of the nation’s largest businesses, Bernie never forgot the importance of small businesses to the economy and the country as a whole,” Ortiz added. “He generously tasked JCN with preserving the small business economy against relentless big government attacks. JCN is proud to carry the torch that Bernie held so high and continue his legacy by fighting for small businesses.”
Marcus was a supporter of Donald Trump and a longtime donor to Republican Party causes.
