Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) dismissed criticisms of President Donald Trump‘s first 100 days in office and pointed to “the progress made.”

Barrasso came to Trump’s defense amid polls from the Washington Post, CNN, and the New York Times, which showed Trump’s approval rating below 40%. This is the lowest for any president at the 100-day mark of their first or second terms in office for the past roughly 80 years.

“Look, these first hundred days with President Trump, you talk about the pace and the progress made, it’s been breathtaking. And in terms of securing the border, getting his Cabinet in place so quickly, lowering prices for the first time in four years, amazing,” Barrasso said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

Next, Barrasso suggested Congress concentrate on the next 100 days to pass the budget reconciliation.

“The other reason we have to get this done in a timely manner is that if we don’t, the Democrats’ $4 trillion tax increase will come into play. We need to stop that,” Barrasso explained. “The Democrats are trying to make us fail because they like high taxes, they like big spending government. But they’re the party of open borders, high prices. We will succeed, we need to succeed. It’s so important to put more money back into the American people’s pockets.”

This tax increase would decrease the child tax credit by half and also decrease the guaranteed deduction by half. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign promises included no tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security for seniors.

Democratic senators are against the budget reconciliation coming out of the House of Representatives and claim it will include cuts to Medicaid. Several Republican lawmakers have denied the rumors of such cuts.
